The Brothers Pompa - Live Dj Set | 7-18-09
Comprising two-thirds of Manuel and Kim Pompa's offspring, Phil and Drew have been making and performing music, off and on, for time immemorial.
Phillip translated his love for the mix tape creation craft to the turntable arts, allegedly, sometime in late 1999. Drew also succumbed to the mystique of turntablism around this time. No one knows when for certain, and these dudes aren’t talking. From that time since, these two lads have seen and done many things, but never without their own soundtracks.
Unsatisfied to merely play the music of others, both Drew and Phil have created havens for music creation, in Detroit and Chicago respectively. Drew co-manages the 'Blank Artists' record label in Detroit from which he releases diverse musical stylings ranging from soul to acid house. He is a man about town. Phil, on the other hand, rarely emerges from his windowless, basement studio, lurking among sundry machines and stacks of old vinyl.
While infrequent, the two brothers manage to swindle a weekend, here and there, from the grind of daily responsibilities. On such occasions, they have been rumored to barricade doors, uncork many a bottle, and whittle away countless hours amidst the hum and crackle of strange electronics, bizarre old records, and weird machinations, unimaginable to the untrained eye.
This will be one of those famed weekends of lore and high adventure. These ruffians have seen fit to play some delightful aural treats for the Ville. If you have not yet met these lads, look for the two guys who seem to be having more fun than anyone else. They are them.
